About:
This is one of my larger map projects and my most successful map yet. I level designed it myself and got help with adding some cool paintings by a friend of mine. Objective: Trouble in Terrorist Town: Every player spawns on the map as innocents and searches for weapons. One (or more if many players) gets secretly chosen to be a traitor. The goal for the traitor is to kill all innocents while the goal for the innocents is to kill the traitor(s). |

Creating this map was definitely the most fun I have ever had during my time mapping. I created this map after a spark of insperation during a game of cluedo. I wanted to build a mansion with alot of hidden passages and traps which is the perfect combination for a “Trouble In Terrorist Town” map.
Creating this map was definitely the most fun I have ever had during my time mapping. I created this map after a spark of insperation during a game of cluedo. I wanted to build a mansion with alot of hidden passages and traps which is the perfect combination for a “Trouble In Terrorist Town” map.
One thing that I felt was missing from a lot of “TTT” maps was hiding spots for both players and the bodies from the murdered victims. Thus I created a clothes chest and a wardrobe that I would place on different locations inside the mansion. While standing inside of the wardrobe the player had a peekhole that you could see out of but not into. In the first release of the map the alive players would only be able to fit inside the wardrobes and not the clothes chest. Although when the game later on got patched to have smaller player collisions the player also would be able to fit inside the clothes chest.
I also wanted the players to be able to shut down the power inside of the mansion to make the map darker for more sneaky encounters. Though I didn’t want the entire map to be completely dark so I placed a fireplace in the main living room to tempt the players to stay inside of that room until the power could be turned back on. This opportunity could strategically be used by the traitors to place an timed bomb near the room for increasing their chance of killing an innocent.
I had designed five traps for the traitors to utilize:
- A chandelier that the traitors would be able to drop to crush the the unsuspecting victims underneath.
- A hatch in the floor that the traitors could trigger to make the victim fall to their death.
- A power box that would explode if triggered by the traitors.
- A freezer room that the traitors could lock to freeze their victims to death.
- A valve was in a later patch implemented. Thus, if triggered it would slowly kill innocent players hiding inside of the tunnels underneath the mansion.
One thing that I came up with for my map was the security room. This could be used as a tool of surveillance for the innocents to eventually witness a murder inside of the mansion from a secure location. The room could also be used by the traitors to trigger some of the traps that are located in the mansion. |
I also came up with three secrets for my map. The first one is if a player pulls one of the oven’s handles. If pulled the shelf inside the kitchen moves to the side to expose a secret passage into the living room. The second secret I have on my map is if a player is walking up the staircase towards the attic just after the power is shut off, a ghost will appear infront of the player. The third one is a secret room behind a bookcase in the basement. Inside there is a high chance for good loot.
One thing that I later on felt was really missing from my mansion was cool paintings. So I asked one of my classmates if he wanted to create some paintings for me. Fortunately for me he was happy to join the project. The thing was that in my class he was known for creating spooky paintings which really helped the setting and it was hilarious for the both of us to see a lot of the let’s players to actually react to the paintings. |

What I would change if I remade this map is that I would optimize it a bit more than I currently have. I would for an example create a proper skybox for the map instead of the very demanding stars around the map. I would also like to add some exterior design outside of the mansion for the players to look at instead of complete darkness. |
After my map was finally uploaded to the workshop it turned out to be my most successful map to this day (with over 30.000 downloads)!
