This is a bank heist map that I created for "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive". The map has a lot of "close quarters combat" with a lot of objects to hide and take cover behind. My inspiration for the map was the movie "Batman: The Dark Knight" and the game "Payday 2". Objective: Hostage rescue: Terrorists (or in this case, robbers) must guard the hostages while the Counter-Terrorist must rescue them. Story: A bank robbery has gone wrong and the robbers have taken hostages. SWAT has been dispatched and has to rescue the hostages. |

A major bank robbery, an action scenario, that is what I wanted to create. This was also something that I felt was missing from the selection of maps that originally came with the game. Just before starting on the development of my map I had recently watched the movie “Batman: The Dark Knight”. And in the beginning of that movie they had a bank heist scene that inspired me to create this map.

I began creating my topdown and built from that. Unfortunately I do not have the original topdowns for the map. I do however have some early images from the construction for my map.
What I originally wanted for my map was for it being set at nighttime. However, during testing I realised that it wouldn't be a good idea. This was due to the fact that it would be too easy for the players to camp in darker areas outside of the bank. It was also that nighttime maps doesn’t tend to be the most popular choice while browsing for a new map to play.
One thing that I really wanted to push in this map was alot of close quarter encounters. Thus I created a lot of office space with office screens that would give alot of visual cover against the opponents. Though the players would be able to shoot through the screens to make the gameplay more interesting. |
A problem that I realised too late into the making of the map was that there was too little of vertical gameplay. But due to the time I had building the map I had to make the best out of the situation and consider remaking my map in the future.
Some of the things I learned during the construction of this csgo map was that:
- I learned how to create a custom radar for my map
- I learned how to select what type of units the players would play as.
- I also improved my ability to construct a more believeable surrounding.
What I would change if I remade this map is that I would make the map more vertical for a more engaging experiance. I would also create a more inspired T-Spawn and more convincing bank vault placement.
